Stop meddling in our personal lives, George. I thought the Republicans were all for local control, but I guess it's different when you are trying to force your bigotry on others. And the majority of Americans don't favor this amendment. His comments are not based in fact; he just says whatever he wants figuring people won't ask for sources or question him.

I have started work at UNESCO in the AIMS group, a small but rapidly expanding unit which is concerned with assessing educational data quality for Asia and the Pacific region and providing capacity building to that end. It's under the umbrella of EFA. Essentially, I get to travel to our member countries and hold workshops on topics ranging from collecting to analyzing educational data. Moreover, there is an emphasis on training trainers to promote a sustainable program. No word yet on where my first trip is to (and I have to develop training materials first, anyhow), but Nepal, Pakistan, Vietnam, and Bangladesh have all been discussed. Mucho exciting. The best part is that I have this job as long as we're in Bangkok, so I don't have to keep looking for jobs every 2-4 months.

Today I had grilled pork and coconut pancakes on a boat at the floating market for breakfast and then lunch at Biscotti. Needless to say, "yum" all around. What a country!

It's a long weekend for Em (and I'm not working yet) so we're heading up to the famous floating market this afternoon to spend the night and wake up early.

And to answer your question: just above the western part of South Africa.

Be part of Mike's Militia: do good things with your civic action and arm yourself with knowledge. The 2004 election is not a foregone conclusion.

I got lazy and put pictures of Timor up on ofoto as opposed to here on the website. If you want to see them, send me an email and let me know.

And to answer your question: Namibia.

So, the bid list came out. It's got about 350 jobs on it, but Em is not eligible for language training, so we can only bid on Spanish and English posts. That leaves us with about 50-60 jobs many of which are in places that we have little desire to go and many of which are jobs Emily is not terribly interested in. After obvious things were cut, the following list of cities seem like viable options for bidding. We still must take into account timing, the job, my job prospects (albeit speculative), the differential compared to our current one, etc. Anyhow, here is, in absolutely no particular order, what we're thinking about and reading up on:

Windhoek
Lima
Guatemala City
Kuwait
Mexico D.F.
Chennai
Belize City
Durban
Vancouver
Santo Domingo
Bogota
Vienna
Managua
Quito
San Jose
Santiago
Addis Ababa
London
La Paz
Buenos Aires

I don't know; these are just places that are good for at least one reason. And there are multiple jobs in some of these cities. The final bid will have between 10-15 jobs when we submit it on or before March 5th.
