I am a student again

I'm now in full time language class and enjoying it. The Thai teachers are so friendly as Thais are known to be. Today was day number three so I can't say much, but if you want to know my name, I can tell you "Pom chuu Justin khrap." More later...

North Carolina Tales

It had been too long since I spent time with Todd, Doug, and Yanna. We had a lot of fun and I learned a great deal. Todd showed me how maple syrup is made (and he served me some of his homemade finest). We made a neat graph that correlated high and low temperatures for each day with sap production. We also made a graph of sap vs. syrup and learned that it takes about 50 cups of sap to make 1 cup of syrup (in NC). Todd also showed me his rock and shell collection that he keeps in his hexagonal house. He showed me his coin collection, too. We made tea from birch tree branches and I tried my hand at wood carving. For the first time I ate parched sweet corn and pileated woodpecker. Doug said it was his first time too (the woodpecker, not the corn). Todd also took me on a snipe hunt, which wasn't as fun as I was led to believe. But the snipe sure did cook up goob!

Huffington Update

If any of you are planning to go to the AAPOR conference this year, you'll have to let me know what transpires at the second plenary session. She's got a lot of chutzpah going up against these three.
